Man charged after police shooting

A North Arm man has been charged following a police-involved shooting in Woombye yesterday morning, about 40 kilometres south of Noosa

Police were first called just before 11:40am on 4 March after reports that a white MG hatchback had crashed on the westbound lanes of the Sunshine Motorway at Sippy Downs. It is alleged the vehicle fled the scene, heading to Nambour Connection Road, where the driver abandoned the MG and got into a white Toyota Hilux.

Officers later located the Hilux on Woombye Palmwoods Road. During the encounter, a 32-year-old man allegedly exited the vehicle armed with a firearm and approached officers, prompting police to discharge their weapons. The man was provided immediate medical assistance at the scene before being transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

The 32-year-old has been charged with multiple offences, including five counts of serious assault police while armed, unlawful possession of a revolver, going armed to cause fear, common assault, possession of methylamphetamine, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of ammunition without authority.

He is scheduled to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today, 5 March.

The investigation is being led by the Queensland Police Service’s Ethical Standards Command with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
