Comfortable lead for incumbent, Llew

The latest polling results for the Wide Bay, according to the AEC, have incumbent MP for the Liberal National Party, Llew O’Brien, scoring 56.86% of the vote on the two-party preferred rating, ahead of Labor’s Elliott Chalmers, but there was a swing against him.

The results, posted at the close of counting for the day have the following figures:

Kirsti Kenningale of the Family First Party scored 6.26% of the vote, up 6.25% on the last Federal election in 2021.

That’s not so hard, considering Family First didn’t have a candidate running for Wide Bay in 2021.

Elliott Chalmers for the Labor Party managed to gain 24.67%, a 4.12% upswing on the former Labor Party candidate for Wide Bay in 2021, Geoff Williams.

Chad Burgess for One Nation gained 13.47%, also an upswing on the 2021 numbers, this time of 1.65%.

Llew O’Brien for the LNP received 36.03% of the primary votes, with a sizeable negative swing of -4.39% on his last election result.

First-time candidate and running as an Independent, Casey Iddon gained 5.18%.

Emma Buhse for The Greens gained 9.39% of the vote, down 0.18% on the previous Greens candidate.

And the final candidate on the ballot, Gabrial Pennecott for the Trumpet of Patriots party, also scored 5% of the primary vote, up 4.38% on the former candidate running for the Palmer United Australia Party.

More details tomorrow.
