Bonza searches for ‘local legend’ on the Sunshine Coast

Bonza is one-step closer to going on sale with the launch of their search to find a local legend on the Sunshine Coast.

The country’s only independent and low-cost airline is planning to crown one passionate Sunny Coaster as the Bonza Local Legend and have them join a group of 16 other legends – one from each destination on Bonza’s route map.

The campaign aims to provide a platform for the airline to work with locals and tourism destination marketing organisations to support inbound tourism to Bonza’s 17 destinations and 27 routes – 85 per cent of which are not currently served by any airline and 96 per cent of which are not currently served by a low-cost airline.

Sunshine Coast locals are encouraged to share a 30 second video to Facebook or Instagram to show fellow Aussies why they should visit on holiday.

Legend status means free VIP flights on the first Sunshine Coast flight (with three other mates or family members).

In addition, Bonza intends to work with the appointed legend to help put the Sunshine Coast firmly on the map through a range of other engagements, help identify deserving members of the community to also be on the inaugural flight, taste test the all Aussie menu and roadtest the airline’s first ever uniform.

Bonza also hopes to work with local legends to feature in upcoming video content promoting destinations that Sunny Coasters can visit with a direct low-cost Bonza flight such as Whitsunday Coast, Mildura, Cairns, Melbourne and more.

Speaking from the Sunshine Coast this morning, Carly Povey, chief commercial officer at Bonza said, “We’re an airline for the many and not the few.

“That’s why we’re calling on locals to share their travel tips and in turn, help fellow Aussies explore their own backyard. If you’re a legend, larrikin, personality about town – come forward.

“We’re looking for big hearts, welcoming arms and people who aren’t shy to give it a go and promote their slice of Allstralia.

“We are about creating new markets for Australia’s domestic tourism industry with a particular focus on regional locations. We’re an airline for teachers, tradies, kids and carers and we want to reflect that in the way we spotlight the many incredible destinations on our route map,” Ms Povey said.

Visit Sunshine Coast chief executive officer Matt Stoeckel welcomed Bonza’s progress towards establishing the Sunshine Coast as its headquarters.

“The Sunshine Coast has always been a popular destination for regional Australia, and the expansion of direct air services to so many key regional centres will be tremendous for our tourism economy,” Mr Stoeckel said.

“Our tourism sector is full of local legends, and with tourism so important to the local community, we would love to see as many people from the region take advantage of the opportunity to become a Bonza Local Legend and fly the flag for the Sunshine Coast.”

Locals legends are encouraged to throw their hat in the ring by uploading a 30 second or less video to Facebook or Instagram tagging @FlyBonza with #BonzaLocalLegends
