Queensland Police Service’s (QPS) Constable Jarwin Blackman became a police officer to strengthen his connection with community and improve the lives of locals, and since being sworn into the service in June 2021, he has been doing just that.

Stationed at Maroochydore Police Station, Constable Blackman has been an active member of his community, committed to exemplifying what it means to be a compassionate and connected police officer.

When he is not on shift Constable Blackman enjoys unwinding from his fast-paced duties by enjoying all that the Sunshine Coast lifestyle has to offer, whether that be a run outdoors, a hike or a quick surf.

Constable Blackman said he proudly represents the Sunshine Coast District, a community he was raised in and now serves.

“I’m incredibly proud to showcase the important work we do here on the Sunshine Coast and the opportunities available with QPS,” Constable Blackman said.

“As a First Nations officer, I’m passionate about connecting with mob and inspiring those who have entered the criminal justice system to make positive changes in their lives, especially our youths.

“Being able to engage with communities through culture is a unique and rewarding aspect of this job, and I strongly encourage other First Nations people to consider a career in policing.”

Constable Blackman’s story is included in a series the QPS has launched as part of its largest recruitment drive in history, highlighting the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available across Queensland.

The series taps into the breathtaking landscapes of Queensland, from picturesque beaches to the iconic red dirt, and captures the unique environments officers patrol and the variety of experiences that come with the job.

Assistant Commissioner Kevin Guteridge from People Capability Command said the campaign is designed to highlight the strong incentives and community-focused work of officers in diverse regions of Queensland.

“Our officers are part of the fabric of their local communities, and this campaign is about celebrating the vital work they do,” Assistant Commissioner Guteridge said.

“From our North Coast to regional Queensland and beyond, we want to show the incredible impact officers have and encourage more people to join the Service.”

“The campaign is supported by innovative recruitment initiatives designed to attract applicants from all walks of life, showcasing the lives and roles of officers across the state.

“There’s no one-size-fits-all for being a police officer. Whether you’re a local looking to serve your community or someone seeking a career change, policing offers a challenging and rewarding career.”
