Noosa students celebrate World Laughter Day

Sunshine Beach State School (SBSS) recently joined with thousands of other organisations in over 70 countries to commemorate World Laughter Day, spreading joy and positivity in a celebration that echoed laughter around the globe.

On World Laughter Day, SBSS students engaged in a myriad of joyful activities, from sporting spectacular socks to sharing their favourite jokes.

The day culminated in a lively middle school disco, where laughter filled the air and smiles adorned every face.

But it wasn’t all just fun and games.

As part of their commitment to giving back to the community, the students also raised funds to support the Salvation Army organisation, recognising the invaluable role they play in supporting families across Australia.

World Laughter Day, founded by Dr Madan Kataria in Mumbai, India in 1998, aims to spread the message of the positive effects of laughter and smiling on both physical and mental well-being.

Laughter, as research suggests, has numerous health benefits, including boosting the immune system, reducing stress, improving heart health, and even burning off a few calories.

Charlie Chaplin once famously said, ‘A day without laughing is a day wasted,’ encapsulating the essence of World Laughter Day. It’s a global celebration of the universal language of laughter, reminding us of the power of positivity and joy in our lives.

Reflecting on the day’s festivities, Wendy Theiber, a Year 6 teacher at SBSS, said, “Laughter is a universal language that brings us all together.”

“World Laughter Day is all about uniting us with the power of fun and laughter.

“The students at SBSS embraced World Laughter Day with positivity and passion, sharing jokes and spreading joy throughout the school community, whilst also raising funds for the very worthwhile Salvation Army organisation in their journey to support others.”
