New COVID-19 testing clinic opens in Noosa

A new mobile COVID-19 testing clinic opens in Noosa today at The J.

Noosa Council has provided the facility for the free COVID-19 clinic, which allows locals and visitors to the area who are showing cold or flu-like symptoms to get tested.

Funded by the Commonwealth Government and run by local medical outreach service, Sunny Street, anyone can either book a time or drop in for a test between 9am-5pm seven days a week.

Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart said the clinic is a timely addition to the region as the pandemic continues to rage in other areas of the country.

“The clinic is a valuable asset to the region at the moment.

“Together as a community we are working hard and adhering to all advice to continue to protect our region from any potential outbreaks. This is just another step in the right direction,” she said.

“The J is a well-known and easily accessible location for the clinic with a huge carpark and all the right infrastructure, so we were thrilled to be able to support the initiative.

Robb Major, Senior Manager at Central Queensland, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast Primary Health Network was part of the team that identified the need for a mobile outreach clinic for the Noosa region.

“Sunny Street is a trusted organisation in the area, with a strong history of supporting the health needs of transient and vulnerable populations. We’re pleased that they have been able to step up to play this critical part in the health infrastructure of the region,” he said.

“By providing a dedicated space for testing and treating people with cold and flu-like symptoms, we can reduce the pressure on the rest of the health system, freeing it up for the day-to-day health issues that people face.

“As a community, we’ve been successful in managing our COVID-19 response so far, but now is not the time to be complacent.

“Flu season is upon us, and we’re pleased this clinic is up and running to support the Hospital and Health Service’s fever clinics, alongside our dedicated GPs in diagnosing and treating people with respiratory illness,” Mr Major said.

The Sunny Street Mobile Respiratory Clinic at The J at Noosa Junction is open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm. Bookings are preferred however walk-ins will be accepted.
