Man accused of ramming police car and threatening officers with knife

Police have charged a man after he allegedly rammed a police car and threatened officers with a knife at Maroochydore on Friday night, 3 October.

Around 8:50pm, two officers returned to the Maroochydore Police Station carpark in an unmarked police vehicle.

It will be alleged that a white Mercedes sedan drove at the police vehicle at speed and rammed into the rear of the police car.

It will be further alleged that the driver and sole occupant of the Mercedes then threatened the officers with a knife and lunged at them.

A number of shots were fired at the man before a third officer successfully deployed a taser, and the man was arrested.

The 53-year-old Eumundi man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, endangering police officer when driving a motor vehicle, going armed to cause fear, possession of a weapon (category M), trespass and three counts of serious assault police officer whilst armed.

He was remanded in custody and set to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on 4 October.

No officers were physically injured during the incident, which will now be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command.
