Young man tragically drowns on Sunshine Coast beach

The body of a 20-year-old Capalaba man was tragically found in waters off Shelley Beach near Caloundra on the afternoon of 5 December.

Water Police on jetskis found the man in waters south of where he went missing.

Preliminary enquiries indicate the man was swimming with a 20-year-old Ferny Hills man when they got into difficulties at around 3.15pm on 4 December.

Three members of the public attempted to rescue the two men and were able to pull one of them to safety.

An extensive air and sea search, coordinated by police and including Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) and the Coast Guard, was conducted for the missing 20-year-old.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
