The Palaszczuk Government is supporting community celebrations across Queensland as part of National Reconciliation Week commencing later this month.
Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Jackie Trad announced this year’s successful grant recipients for 31 events across the State.
“Under the latest round of the Celebrating Reconciliation Small Grants Program grants of up to $2,500 are being awarded,” Ms Trad said.
“We are supporting an exciting mix of celebrations showcasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, traditional performances, storytelling and culture.
“These grants support events that are planned and delivered by local groups so that they include the diverse stories and experiences of First Nations people across the whole state.
“Through these Reconciliation Week events we are working together to build cultural awareness, accept our shared history, and encourage respectful relationships between all Australians.
“I want to encourage everyone to get to their local event and get into the spirit of Reconciliation Week.”
National Reconciliation Week is a national campaign held each year from 27 May to 3 June, and commemorates two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey—the successful 1967 referendum and the 1992 High Court Mabo decision.
This year’s theme for National Reconciliation Week – Grounded in truth. Walk together with courage – encourages Australians to join the movement towards a unified future by building positive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples based on truth, understanding and respect for each other.
