Mayor Stewart: ‘Don’t become complacent’

Mayor Clare Stewart has thanked the Shire for their efforts in being covid-safe over the recent long weekend, but has warned residents to not become complacent.

“It was great to see so many locals out and about over the long weekend, making use of our beaches, Gympie Terrace, our river, the hinterland.

“It’s encouraging that we’re able to get outdoors but please don’t get complacent.

Queensland Police issued more than 1,600 fines across the state over the long weekend for breaches of social distancing measures.

Cr Stewart said locally, Noosa is doing much better in comparison with just one on the spot fine issued over the weekend.

On Saturday, May 2, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the easing of some restrictions, allowing Queenslanders to travel up to 50km for boating, fishing, picnics and shopping for non-essential items.

From Mother’s Day, May 10, households of up to five people will be allowed to visit another household group, though this does not allow two household groups to go out into the community together.
