Last month Noosa artist Simone Z Leao was in Iceland for an art residency and freezing in -3 degree weather. She’s back now, happy to be home and when Noosa Today spoke to her she had just returned from a “warm walk in the National Park.”

Simone’s journey to be an artist has been an extraordinary one and this Saturday she will be at Wallace House to talk about her career which started as an environmental chemical engineer specialising in pollution problems in cities here and overseas.

She has now developed a long, unfulfilled talent as an artist, sculptor and garment designer and two years ago she showed her work at New York Fashion Week and last year at Milan Fashion Week.

Simone was born in Brazil and lived and travelled in Asia, Europe and Africa before coming to Australia. She came to Noosa in 2020 just before the covid pandemic. A former president of Noosa Open Art Studios, she said Wallace House was important to her in her early days.

“I didn’t know anyone. Everything was closed and Wallace House gave me the chance to meet other artists in the community.”

Her sculpture, jewellery and garment work will be on display on Saturday. She has an online shop which she uses to sell her clothing fashions.
