Recognition for Queensland effort

The J provided the perfect backdrop on Thursday to acknowledge with Queensland Day Awards the outstanding work of

community volunteers and professionals who donate their expertise and services to support our local not for profit organisations, events and initiatives.

More than 200 people joined the Saint Teresa’s College Concert Band to shine a spotlight on 42 award recipients who received a medallion and certificate from Noosa MP Sandy Bolton in recognition of their ongoing commitment to the community.

“Queensland Day is a fabulous date to celebrate not only being a Queenslander, but the outstanding work and dedication of our people, including these 42 award recipients,” Mr Bolton said. “I continue to be in awe and admiration for the incredible work they are doing every day”.

Nominations came from both community and business sectors with some organisations receiving multiple awards.

Individuals from groups across the shire were recognised including Noosa Dolphins Rugby Union Club, Majestic Theatre, Pomona, Noosa Shire Museum, Rotary and Zonta clubs, Noosa Arts and Crafts, Cooroora PCYC, Noosa Heads SLSC and Katie Rose Cottage Hospice.“From projects that build much needed facilities, environmental cleanup operations and providing

recreation and support for both our children and our elders, to raising funds as well providing

essential services. Where would Noosa be without them?” Ms Bolton said.

The Noosa Electorate Queensland Day Awards will be hosted again in 2020 to coincide with

Queensland Day celebrations. Community groups and businesses who provide significant pro-bono

services, are encouraged to put forward a nomination early next year.
