Prominent Queensland barrister, QC, judge and arbitrator Richard Chesterman will reflect on the balance between justice and mercy when administering the law when he speaks at a Mens Breakfast at Sunshine Beach Surf Club on Saturday 21 March at 7.30am.
The Anglican Church of Noosa welcomes Richard Chesterman as their first Men’s Breakfast speaker for 2026 as he addresses a topical issue that could carry life changing impacts for all the people involved.
Richard Chesterman spent 50 years practising law – as a barrister for 28 years then 15 years as QC, before being appointed to the Queensland Supreme Court in 1998 and then to the Court of Appeal in 2008. As barrister he served in the RAAF reserve.
In 1992 Richard conducted an inquiry into a complaint that the then Commissioner of Police had misused public money. The Commissioner resigned as a result of the inquiry’s findings.
He investigated the operation of the Queensland Medical Board at the request of the Crime and Misconduct Commission, and was appointed Commissioner of Inquiry into the delivery of a payroll system which underpaid many Qld Health employees.
He retired from the court in 2012 after having written more than 900 judgements, and began a new practice as an arbitrator and mediator in large commercial disputes.
