Dolphins score first victory of season

Outstanding defence and the return of experienced Corey Dietrich to the Ray White Noosa Dolphins A Grade contributed to the side’s first victory for the season.

Against an improved Caboolture side, the Dolphins ran out 17-5 victors in the first home fixture.

Dietrich, playing his first game of the season, took out the man of the match honours closely followed by the consistently strong performer Levi Shaw.

“Our defensive effort continues to impress and this week we started to see our combinations in attack take some shape’ coach Matt Buckland said. ‘Still a way to go, but the work being put in by the players will be rewarded as the season unfolds’.

Away again next week against Wynnum, the Ray White Dolphins have an opportunity to secure fourth place in the table at the end of the first round with a victory over the well performing Wynnum side.

“This will be another test for us as we are equal on the table with Wynnum, but a challenge we are keenly looking forward to,” Buckland said.

The Ray White Reserve Grade, Womens and Colts teams were also victorious to make it four from four for the home club.

A standout performance by Alex Hollis bagging a hat trick of tries supported by Callum Phillips and Josh McMaster, saw a 12-0 half time lead extend to a 29-5 victory for the Reserves whilst it was a mix of old and new who led the women to a 53-10 victory.

Evergreen Kelli Dunlop led the way in the midfield, but it was third gamer Ashleigh Wark who took out player of the match honours according to coach Damien Cogill.

“Kelli does what she aways does but I was impressed with the work done by Ash and other new faces Liv Lubrano and first gamers Aqua Meaney and Lucy Grace-Cullen,” Cogill said.

Dolphins Colts coach Brad Torta was satisfied following his teams 10-5 victory over ladder leader University, pointing to solid team effort.

“We have been improving each week as we get numbers to training, so it was great to see the effort rewarded,” Torta said.

The Dolphins Colts have been light on numbers this season but the hard work on the field by the players and off the field by Torta and his assistants Digger Munro and manager Deb Bickle is delivering results. ‘We are seeing good things happening and I am keen for any new or former players to come along and join us’ Torta said.
