The Sunshine Coast is undergoing a transformative shift in its transportation infrastructure, with several major projects taking significant steps forward. The state government’s commitment to delivering generational infrastructure is evident as The Wave (Stage 2), the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade, and the Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade all progress.
Premier David Crisafulli has emphasized the government’s promise to get the Sunshine Coast moving again, acknowledging the long-standing traffic gridlock that has plagued the region. “We’re delivering on that promise,” he affirmed, “as we accelerate these critical projects and get busy roads flowing again.”
The Wave (Stage 2) has reached a crucial milestone, with the final round of geotechnical works and site investigations underway at the future Aroona Station site. These preliminary steps will provide essential information to kickstart the detailed design process, expediting the project’s progression.
The Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade has also reached a significant milestone, with the Sunshine Coast Council opening tenders for construction between Nicklin Way and Third Avenue. This project aims to alleviate traffic on the Caloundra Road, Nicklin Way, and Pelican Waters Boulevard intersection, offering locals an alternative route into the Caloundra CBD.
Furthermore, early works for Stage 1 of the Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade are well underway, with procurement in progress for the remaining major earthworks and civil works. This project is crucial in improving the region’s north-south road connectivity and is a key component of The Wave.
Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie emphasized the transformative impact these projects will have on the Sunshine Coast’s transport network, promising to deliver The Wave all the way to the Sunshine Coast Airport in time for the 2032 Games. Maroochydore MP Fiona Simpson and Caloundra MP Kendall Morton echoed the sentiment, highlighting the significance of these infrastructure investments for their respective regions.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli praised the partnership between the Queensland Government and Sunshine Coast Council, underscoring the importance of collaboration in delivering vital infrastructure for the community.
