Armed robbery in Maroochydore

Police are seeking public assistance following an alleged armed robbery at a convenience store in Maroochydore on Thursday 3 November.

Around 8.20pm, two people entered the Duporth Avenue store and allegedly threatened the employee at the counter, demanding cash and cigarettes.

The employee complied and the two people fled on foot onto Duporth Avenue.

No one was physically injured.

A short time later, police located a man allegedly in possession of several packets of cigarettes and a quantity of cash on nearby Anzac Avenue.

Police will also allege a bag containing clothing, shoes and a hammer was located on the ground near where the man was intercepted.

The 23-year-old Maroochydore man was taken into custody and later charged with one count of armed robbery in company. He was due before Maroochydore Magistrates Court on 4 November.

Investigations are ongoing into the second person involved.

Anyone who may have witnessed something in the moments leading up to or after the incident is asked to contact police.
