Jazz like it was

The very popular Braben Jenner Hot Five will be performing with passion, skill and respect for the originals when they play for Noosa Jazz Club at The J on Saturday 16 March. The band plays the music of early 20th century America including the ragtime of Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton and Fats Waller, the great masters of the piano, and the hot jazz of Sidney Bechet, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Dodds, King Oliver, Bix Beikderbecke and Duke Ellington.

The band comprises Andy Jenner on clarinet, soprano and baritone sax, John Braben on trumpet, Jo Bloomfield on piano and Peter Freeman on double bass. Wally Furst recently retired from playing and on this occasion John Withers has taken the banjo seat. Together, they will take guests back in time to where it all started in the early days of jazz, pre-1925, with ragtime piano, blues and the jazz of early New Orleans.

These are the roots of jazz and will be a refreshing change.
