Local employers a new addition to USC Open Day

In a local first, employers will attend USC’s Open Day at Sunshine Coast campus to talk with prospective students about future careers and work experience opportunities in the region.

Representatives from industries including health, law, local government, business, environmental management, engineering, IT and energy services will discuss career opportunities available now and into the future, at the public event on Sunday 21 July from 10am.

USC Student Recruitment Manager Tanou Siebenmann said the ‘Career Collective’ marquee had been organised to help Open Day visitors find out more about the career and workplace experience opportunities.

“Many of our students love living on the Sunshine Coast and want to continue to live and work here when they complete their university studies,” Mr Siebenmann said.

“The opportunity to connect with local employers and find out more about working on the Coast and the employment options here can offer a valuable insight into what interests them and the degrees they might choose to follow that path.

“Commercial confidence is at its highest in years on the Coast, and USC continues to be a strong contributor to the region’s economic growth, particularly by supplying work-ready graduates and developing new industry through research.”

He said potential students would also be able to meet USC graduates and discuss what they studied at university and their first-hand experiences as employees in their field.

“For many unsure about what career paths they might take, it can be life-changing to speak with someone who has already studied and is working in the field today,” Mr Siebenmann said.

Employers registered to attend include Veolia, Noosa Shire Council, IDCARE, Datisan, Caboolture Special School, Noosa and District Landcare, Arup, Australian Coastal and Marine Ecology, Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service, IRT Woodlands, Sunshine Coast Mind and Neuroscience Thompson Institute, Life Law Solutions and Pippa Coleman.

Open Day will include special presentations by USC staff and students on: balancing study with other commitments such as work, finances and family; how to choose the right degree and make the most of university life; and what’s on offer at USC’s new Moreton Bay campus at Petrie.
