In what has been a challenging year for the industry, Noosa builders came up trumps at this year’s Master Builders Sunshine Coast 2022 Housing & Construction Awards.

More than 40 builders, projects, and individuals from Noosa to Pelican Waters were recognised at the glamorous event held at the Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort on Saturday 6 August.

Chris Smith Construction scored a hat-trick, collecting the coveted BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award for their Tinbeerwah project, Australis, as well as the Langs Building Supplies trophy for Best Residential Bathroom and Best Residential Pool for Kareela in Little Cove.

The stunning design of Australis fits seamlessly within its surroundings, delivering incredible craftsmanship and impeccable fittings.

Capturing waterfront views with an outdoor living feel, the Modern Thai House at epitomises the Sunshine Coast lifestyle, earning Braeden Constructions the prestigious Xact Accounting 2022 House of the Year award.

The Noosa Heads project is a modern three-level home with several timber highlights giving it a tropical atmosphere.

The Modern Thai House was also named the best Individual Home over $2 million.

Master Builders Sunshine Coast Queensland regional manager, Nicola Scott congratulated all 43 category winners.

“It was a year of unexpected challenges and hurdles, but our industry took it in their stride and has produced some truly outstanding work,’’ she said.

“From this time last year to the present moment we have constantly faced a new set of problems, however, the Sunshine Coast has proved to be remarkably resilient.

“This is a time to celebrate our wins.

“From luxury beachside homes, educational facilities and health precincts to stunning renovations and even backpackers’ accommodation, this year’s entries were inspirational.

“The quality of the winning entries is second to none and the style of entries showcased our incredible coastal lifestyle.”

The Coolum Beach development by Mosaic Construction won the Residential Building (high-rise over three storeys) up to $20 million category and claimed the sought-after Bathersby Legal 2022 Project of the Year Award.

The ocean views from First Bay by Mosaic are a beach-lover’s dream.

The impressive project comprises 38 apartments across two boutique buildings, boasting opulent finishes and designer kitchens.

The Murphy Builders Qld team cemented their status as sustainable builders, picking up the awards for Excellence in Sustainable Living and Excellence in Energy Efficiency and Environmental Management for Azure Buderim Residence and Mooloolaba Foreshore Redevelopment projects respectively.

They also took home the Best Use of Sloping Sites award for Azure Buderim Residence.

C2 Projects was among the other big winners on the night, scooping the Alan Eichmann Memorial Award for Innovation for Saving The Geddes.

Judges described the restoration and renovation of this original 1965 Kings Beach house as a work of art.

C2 Projects preserved as much of the original home’s character as possible while creating a more liveable space and maximising the coastal views.

Mitchell Jensen from MLB Design & Construction was awarded Construction Skills Queensland Apprentice of the Year with Jordan Jolly from Stroud Homes nabbing the Women in Building award.

Winner of the 2022 Sunshine Coast Xact Accounting House of the Year – Braeden Constructions for Modern Thai House Located in the serene waterfront location of Noosa Heads, the Modern Thai House exudes contemporary style.

Designed to open up completely for an indoor-outdoor living feel, the Modern Thai House is an entertainer’s dream.

Wrapping around a central tropical oasis, the home includes a basement living level that is below the river.

This three-level waterfront home boasts an outdoor dining pavilion, while a fire pit and seating give the illusion of floating in the pool.

Judges’ comments “With its striking roof design and timber highlights throughout adding to the tropical elegance, this Thai inspired home transports you to another world the moment you step inside.

“The attention to detail is a reflection of outstanding workmanship worthy of the 2022 House of the Year Award.”

In accepting the House of the Year Award, Mick Devlin of Braeden Constructions said they were a small family company with a great team but would spend the next 12 months just trying to secure materials and keep up with price increases.

“Everything you have to do is just to try and keep afloat at times like this,’’ he said. “Yet it’s important to look after the trades who looked after you over the years.

“And it’s important in the years to come for us all to look after the youth that are coming into the industry.

“There’s a shortage of trades and if it keeps getting worse we are going to be in trouble in a few years time – look after your apprentices and do what we can to keep supporting the industry.’’

Winner of the 2022 Sunshine Coast BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award – Chris Smith Construction Pty Ltd for Australis Australis is arranged in a series of interconnected pavilions that follow the natural topography, connecting the home to the beautiful native forest and surrounding landscape.

The family home boasts big, sliding, glass doors and windows that open onto the greenery. The builders have used spotted gum wood on all cladding, decks, and exposed beams and flooring, for its bushfire resistant characteristics.

A timber theme is carried throughout with blackbutt feature ceilings and solid oak joinery aligned with polished concrete floors.

Judges’ comments “Exceptional quality and attention to detail.

“This incredible home exudes rustic charm and is a credit to the team of exceptional trades that helped in bringing this vision to life.”
