Act now to keep down population

The draft ShapingSEQ 2023 Update has opened for consultation with a projected permanent population into the future for the Noosa Shire of 76,000 residents which is not feasible nor sustainable, says Noosa MP Sandy Bolton who has urged residents to attend an information session and voice their opinion.

“That is 13,000 more than what we can sustainably carry, equivalent to Christmas peak season every day,” she said.

“There are many who have fought so hard for Noosa over the decades, including for deamalgamation, and we need to fight again, for our communities, our environment and our economy.”

The draft, as well information on how to have your say through submissions, is available at both the State Government website at shapingseq.statedevelopment.qld.gov.au and via Noosa 360 at www.SandyBolton.com/Draft-Southeast-Queensland-Regional-Plan-August-2023.

“It is time to be vigilant and for all to get involved as we do not need any additional strain on our environment, infrastructure and amenities, nor the character and built environment that makes Noosa a unique destination and home” Ms Bolton said.

Whilst there is no population ‘cap’ per say, mechanisms are within the Noosa planning scheme which relate to a projected resident population carrying capacity by 2041 of 63,000 residents.

“We will be working together with Noosa Council to demonstrate to State Government why the projections for the Noosa Shire in the draft plan are not sustainable nor sensible, for our communities nor broader Queensland.

“To assist in efforts, we ask everyone to ensure they make a valid submission to State Government after attending the information session, 4pm 29 August at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church (Noosa District) Parish Hall, 5 Moorindil St, Tewantin.”

Register your attendance at shapingseq.statedevelopment.qld.gov.au/register-your-interest.

“Should the State government retain these figures after public consultation and our advocacies, we shall be calling on everyone again to load onto buses. Please share far and wide as we need everyone behind us,” Ms Bolton said.
