Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has declared that students will be learning from home for the first five weeks of Term 2.

Schools will only remain open for children whose parents are essential workers, or those who are vulnerable.

Minister for Education Grace Grace said that children who do not have laptops will be able to loan them from school, and that Telstra will provide over 5000 sim cards so students without internet can access online learning materials.

Ms Grace also confirmed that the testing criteria for coronavirus has been extended to those who work in the education sector.

As of Monday, April 13, there are only seven new cases in Queensland, bringing the total to 987.

Five Queenslanders have passed away from coronavirus, 442 have since recovered.
