Sunshine Coast man charged with alleged armed robbery

During the arrest, police will allege the man struck out at numerous officers.

Detectives from Maroochydore Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man following the alleged armed robbery of a Sippy Downs business on Monday 7 November.

Investigators will allege the man entered a Scholars Drive grocery store around 7pm wearing a novelty face mask before allegedly producing a knife and demanding cash from two staff members, who complied and were not physically injured.

The man allegedly fled the scene on an e-scooter with police, including the dog squad, tracking him to nearby bushland off Varsity Drive where he was taken into custody.

During the arrest, police will allege the man struck out at numerous officers, who sustained minor injuries not requiring hospitalisation.

Detectives have charged the 23-year-old Sippy Downs man with one count each of armed robbery and serious assault police.

He was denied police bail and was set to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday 8 November.
