Australia Zoo reunites with the Ukrainian community

Australia Zoo has collaborated with the Ukrainian Community of Queensland to welcome more than 400 displaced Ukrainians for a special day of connection and joy among wildlife.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, guests enjoyed a full day of adventure, from feeding kangaroos and exploring Australia Zoo’s lush grounds, to watching the world-famous Wildlife Warriors show in the 5000-seat Containers for Change Crocoseum.

His Excellency Vasyl Myroshnychenko, Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia, said, “It’s a great pleasure to be here at Australia Zoo on this beautiful day in Queensland. We’re honoured to have brought in 400 displaced Ukrainian people here, and the warm welcome extended to everyone has been wonderful.”

“Australia Zoo has offered families, especially those with little kids, a chance to relax, engage with wildlife, and reconnect with nature. We’re very grateful for such a meaningful experience,” he said.

The day offered guests a welcome escape and an opportunity to connect with the natural world, surrounded by Australia Zoo’s iconic animals, from gorgeous tigers and cuddly koalas to majestic saltwater crocodiles!

Peter Bongiorni, President of the Ukrainian Community of Queensland Inc., said, “We’re here at Australia Zoo, the best zoo in the world, and it means so much to have a day where people can simply be one with nature and the animals. It’s a chance to let go of their worries and enjoy a truly healing experience.”

“This was our second visit, and we had twice as many people join us this time. We’re incredibly thankful to the Irwin family and Australia Zoo for opening their doors and sharing the true hospitality of Australia,” Peter said.

The day was filled with smiles, laughter and a sense of togetherness, a powerful reminder of how nature, animals and the community can help lift spirits, even in the most challenging times.
