The storm had been building since mid afternoon and reached a crescendo midway though the Noosa Carol Cruise on Saturday evening.
Yet the 20-minute summer downpour didn’t dampen the spirits of those who had gathered at riverbank parks, on decks and balconies of homes and apartments or on the flotilla of boats that followed the carol singers aboard the Noosa Ferry Miss Tewantin.
It was the second Carol Cruise and was sponsored by Reed & Co Estate Agents in conjunction with the Noosa Ferry.
On board were members of the Sunshine Coast Youth Choir who sang a variety of carols and Christmas favourites either at organised stops or while the classic timber ferry glided through the waters of Noosa River and Noosa Sound.
The response was one of surprise and enjoyment from those who had not been part of the annual cruise and boat parade before, most of the boats having been decorated in keeping with the theme.
The rain squall provided the chance for those on board or on the land to strike up new friendships through the gift of song.
Reed & Co principal Adrian Reed was so proud about the event.
He said it was an obligation of business to contribute to the community and there was no better way than to share a great experience together.
“Carols on the River epitomises that.
“By bringing families together it becomes a celebration of community and the wonderful place we get to live in.”
Sunshine Coast Oriana and Youth Choir president Melissa Innes said the Carols Cruise on Noosa River was absolutely spectacular.
Highlighted by a storm mid-cruising, the Noosa River, the setting sun and local residents really turned it on to support this wonderful community event.
“This concept is genius and Sunshine Coast Youth Choir, despite the downpour, loved being a part of it.
“We loved this event and what it represented in terms of bringing the community together.
“Thanks Reed & Co, Noosa Ferry and Noosa residents for bringing the spirit of Christmas alive.’’
