Local charity calls for Coast to join largest digital appeal

Wishlist is putting the call out to the Sunshine Coast community to give a little and help a lot on their biggest fundraising appeal of 2022.

Returning for its third year, Wishlist Giving Day is a 12-hour digital event on Thursday 24 March that enables the local charity to provide ‘the extras’ to Sunshine Coast public hospitals.

Fundraising and Partnerships Manager Lisa Wilson said each year she has been astounded by the growing level of support Wishlist have received on Giving Day despite clashing with challenging times.

“Throughout the global pandemic we have seen time and time again the Sunshine Coast community unite on this special day to guarantee more of our local and rural families receive the best support during critical times of need,” Ms Wilson said.

“We’d like to thank our business ‘matchers’ Walter Iezzi Property Group, Just Better Care Sunshine Coast, The McDowell Family, Sunshine Toyota, Protector Aluminium, Project Urban and Conbuild who will match every single dollar the community donate between 6am and 6pm, or until we reach our fundraising goal.

“This year we’re inviting all schools, community groups and local businesses to create their own team. Being a digital event makes it super simple to donate, set a fundraising goal and share a unique link with friends and family, so everyone can make a real difference.”

Walter Iezzi Property Group Director Walter Iezzi said he didn’t have a shred of doubt extending their support this Wishlist Giving Day as a business ‘matcher’ because of the charity’s ability to lighten the load of hundreds of families every year.

“We have seen the amazing work Wishlist has done for patients, families and staff for such a long period of time which is why we’ve supported them in the past through events like Wishlist Spring Carnival,” Mr Iezzi said.

“Quite often our health is something we don’t think about until you or a loved one are laying in a hospital bed, and requiring the best treatment and services close to home.

“It feels great to be in a position where we can empower the community to donate – knowing donations will have twice the impact. Who wouldn’t want to be part of easing the pain for families going through the darkest period of their life?”

This year’s Giving Day funds will go towards vital medical equipment, services to support patients, innovative medical research projects, and hospital accommodation like Wishlist Centre – which will open in July this year.
