Noosa’s new council set to swear in

Noosa’s soon to be councillors and mayor elect will be sworn in this morning by council CEO Brett de Chastel.

Clare Stewart, along with three new comers, Karen Finzel, Amelia Lorenston, Tom Wegener and returning councillors Frank Wilkie, Brian Stockwell and Joe Jurisevic will be sworn in at 10.30 this morning.

The event, taking place in council chambers, will be live streamed on the Noosa Council Facebook page to adhere to social distancing requirements.

Once the seven representatives have been sworn in, they will meet again on Friday April 17 for their first official council meeting, which will see the deputy mayor elected.

Newcomer Amelia Lorenston addressed the tough road ahead of the new council regarding the pandemic coronavirus.

“I look forward to working with our new Mayor Clare Stewart and the council that the community elected.

“And mostly, I look forward to working hard and listening to the people and communities of the Noosa Shire,” she said.

“The Covid-19 pandemic poses an unprecedented challenge for council and our community.

“And I believe that the fight against Covid-19 will not be a short one.

“I am ready for the challenge. Noosa, you have all of me.”
