Vehicle activated signs for Kin Kin Road

Six vehicle activated signs will be installed along Kin Kin Road as part of Transport and Main Roads’ co-ordinated management with Queensland Police and stakeholders.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said installation of VAS was one of several departmental initiatives to address community concerns about speeding on Kin Kin Road.

“The existing speed limit signs along Kin Kin Road are in good condition and can be clearly seen by approaching traffic,“ Mr Bailey said.

“The addition of VAS signs will remind motorists to slow down and drive to the speed limit and road conditions.

“I’ve received lots of feedback from the community about heavy vehicles using this road and we are continuing to try and improve the way the road it used.

“Vehicle activated signs are an effective way to remind everyone on the road, including heavy vehicles to slow down and take care.”

The temporary signs are expected to be installed mid-to-late November, weather and scheduling permitting.

Traffic counters will be placed at the locations to establish baseline data for traffic and speed before the new VAS are installed.

The VAS signs will be at the following locations:

– Kin Kin Road (Hill Street) near Pomona Early Childhood Centre and St Mary Magdalene Orthodox Mission.

– Pomona Connection Road (Reserve Street) near Rules Road.

– Pomona Connection Road (Reserve Street) near Rifle Street.

– Kin Kin Road (Factory Street) near Exhibition Street.

– Kin Kin Road near Sallwood Court.

– Kin Kin Road between Turnbull Road and Moffat Road.

Mr Bailey said it was vital motorists observed all road signs and drove to traffic conditions.

“TMR has undertaken additional measures on Kin Kin Road to improve safety like reducing the speed limit on several sections of the road and roadside vegetation management to reduce potential hazards,” he said.

“Every effort will be made to keep disruptions to a minimum with the installation of the new VAS.

“TMR acknowledges the cooperation and patience of stakeholders.”
