Man charged on assault and theft

Police charged a 52-year-old man charged with multiple offences following the theft of Egyptian artefacts at a Caboolture museum and an assault in Hastings Street, Noosa.

Officers from Moreton North Property Crime Taskforce have charged a 52-year-old man with multiple offences following an incident at a Caboolture museum where Egyptian artefacts were stolen on Friday, 13 February.

At approximately 3am on Friday 13 February police allege a man smashed a window of The Abbey Place property and took a quantity of Egyptian artefacts before leaving the scene.

Police allege a day earlier the same man was trespassing on a property in Hastings Street Noosa and assaulted a resident when asked to leave.

About 1.30pm Sunday 14 February, police located a vehicle of interest in a car park of Redland Bay ferry terminal. That vehicle, a Toyota HiAce camper, was seized and subject of a search by police.

Detectives found all of the stolen Egyptian artefacts except a wooden cat sculpture. The items were recovered intact, with only minor damage noted.

About 7pm, a 52-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on Russell Island and transported to Cleveland Watchhouse. Police will allege the man was found in possession of the last missing artefact, the wooden cat sculpture.

The 52-year-old man has been charged with enter premises and commit indictable offence by break, and three counts of wilful damage.

He was also charged with trespass and assault occasioning bodily harm in relation to the incident at a Hastings Street, Noosa property on 12 February.

He is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on 16 February.
