Glossy Warrior Spencer Hitchen has invited all children to perform in a music video rehearsal this Sunday 18 July from 8am to 10.30am at Grasstree Court, Sunrise Beach to support Glossy Black-Cockatoo conservation.

Led by renowned professional songstress Mish Shell, the event Record Glossy Song provides children the opportunity to rehearse The Glossy Black Cockatoo, before official footage starts next week for publication on Youtube and social media channels.

“The rehearsal is a great way for us to get ready for the day of recording as it’s a big thing, especially for someone who hasn’t had any experience in a studio,” Ms Shell said.

“But it’s also a great opportunity for kids and parents alike to do something that’s fun, but also good for humanity and Mother Earth.”

Local environmental author Jim Bird (and Helen Moffitt) who received personal recognition from Sir David Attenborough for a children’s environmental activity book on tackling climate change, said Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s speech at a 2019 United Nations conference highlights children’s attitudes towards the environment.

“Prime Minister Scott Morrison said, ‘I receive many letters from children in Australia concerned about their future, and I deeply respect their concerns, welcome their passion, and seek to respond positively, and encourage them’,” Mr Bird said.

Mr Bird said events like Record Glossy Song are essential in raising awareness of children’s environmental concerns.

“We need to listen to children as whatever we do tends to be ignored by the government,” Mr Bird said.

Almost 51,500 people have signed Spencer’s petition demanding the Uniting Church save the birds’ food trees on the proposed site in UNESCO Noosa Biosphere Reserve.

Passionate about bird photography and wildlife, Spencer holds serious concerns for the survival of the Glossy Black Cockatoo.

“I like these events because all kids get a voice,” Spencer said.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien, Noosa MP Sandy Bolton, Mayor Clare Stewart, Deputy Mayor Frank Wilkie, Cr Brian Stockwell, Cr Joe Jurisevic, Cr Amelia Lorentson, Cr Karen Finzel and Cr Tom Wegner have been invited to listen to children’s views on the impacts of habitat loss in UNESCO Noosa Biosphere Reserve.

All local schools are invited to attend.

Children are encouraged to wear Glossy Black-Cockatoo colours and bring signs to create artwork, with the key message: ‘Save Our Glossies’.

Parents are advised to bring morning tea, picnic rug and chairs.
