Drongos grow up

Hinterland resident Leanne Airey has been watching with amazement as a family of Spangled Drongos emerged before her eyes, from the creation of the nest to the little chicks being almost ready for flight.

“The turn of events has happened right near my verandah, so I have had a front row seat watching everything unfold throughout these recent school holidays,” she said.

“I am expecting the new family to leave the nest in the very near future, as the little chicks’ feathers are rapidly developing and besides, I don’t know how much longer the chicks will be able to share that little nest.

“I feel very fortunate to have watched nature unfold and yes, a part of me will certainly be a bit sad to see them all fly off into the unknown.”
