Meet Llew O’Brien, LNP

What is your background?

For the last nine years the people of Wide Bay have entrusted me as their representative in the Australian Parliament. Prior to that I served as a police officer in Wide Bay.

Why do you think you would be a good candidate to represent the seat of Wide Bay?

I have the experience and the proven track record of working with constituents, community service, sporting, and veteran groups, providing strong representation to achieve results. I’m standing to make sure Noosa and Wide Bay gets its fair share and my plan for Wide Bay is available here www.llewobrien.com.au/about-llew-o-brien

If elected, what would you do to address each of the following issues?

Health Services

We need to stop the decline of bulk billing which has dropped by 11 per cent under Labor and we need better access to health care.

An LNP Government will invest $9 billion to boost bulk billing and grow our GP workforce through new incentives. We will lower the PBS co-payment to $25 and concession card holders will continue to pay $7.70.

We will deliver new investments in best-practice women’s health, mental health, suicide prevention, and cancer treatments.

Cost of living

The LNP will deliver immediate cost of living relief by providing a tax offset worth up to $1,200 and halving fuel excise. Cutting 25 cents off every litre of petrol or diesel will save around $14 on a 55 litre tank, and we’ll scrap Labor’s car and ute tax. Our plan to cut the cost of living includes lowering inflation and cheaper energy.

Immigration and border control

Australia celebrates the contribution of migrants, but immigration needs to be managed to ensure that housing supply meets demand. Under Labor one million people have arrived in two years. By rebalancing the migration program, we can free up over 100,000 homes in the next five years.

Electricity prices

I want electricity to be cheap and reliable. Labor broke its promise of a $275 reduction in power prices and bills have risen by $1300. The LNP’s energy plan is 44 per cent cheaper than Labor’s, saving up to $263 billion, lowering prices for households and businesses compared to Labor’s plan. The LNP’s gas policy is forecast to reduce household electricity bills by 3 per cent in 2026.

National roads and rail infrastructure

Your safety on our roads is important to me and I have always worked to make our stretch of the national highway safer.

Working with the community we secured $800 million for the Gympie bypass and an extra $183 million for a four lane Tiaro bypass.

There is much more work to do to improve transport infrastructure and I’ll continue my advocacy to get the job done.
