Man’s best friend helps local charity

It was a case of man’s best friend, helping man’s best friend this week when Rover Mowers and the team at Mower and ATV Solutions in Cooroy, came to the rescue of local charity PTSD Dogs Australia, subsidising the purchase of a zero-turn ride-on-mower for their new home in the Noosa hinterland.

The charity, which rescues dogs, that rescue veterans and first rResponders with PTSD, recently moved onto the two-acre hinterland property, but desperately needed a mower to allow them to keep the property well maintained to keep their precious pooches safe from ticks and snakes.

It costs approximately $40,000 per dog to fully train, house and maintain an assistance dog, so it is vital they are kept safe in their home.

PTSD Dogs Australia, a local charity based near Cooroy, rescues dogs from shelters and pounds, trains them to become highly-skilled assistance dogs, then places the dogs, at no cost, to veterans and first responders suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of their service to the community.

Chief executive officer Angie Weeks said she was delighted Rover and Dave from Mower and ATV Solutions were able to assist.

“Dave and his team have been absolutely wonderful. We are incredibly grateful to them and to Rover for their support,“ she said.

Owner and all-round good guy, Dave Mancktelow from Mower and ATV Solutions in Cooroy said, “We’re really happy to support this organisation.“

“We really respect what our veterans and first responders do. Quite a few veterans retire out here to the Hinterland to enjoy the peaceful existence, and this is our way of giving a little bit back to them and saying thanks to them for their service.”

Rover Australia’s national product and business development manager Tony Scott was also on hand to present the mower and meet the furry pack who gave the new mower their paw stamp of approval.

The organisation is almost entirely run by volunteers and relies heavily on donations, grants and sponsorships to carry out their great work.
