Butterflies campaign for mental health

Local disability support charity Sunshine Butterflies have recently entered into a partnership with another meaningful organisation,The Mental Awareness Foundation.

The Brisbane based foundation have collaborated with Sunshine Butterflies to help spread the message of mental health and wellness in people living with disabilities.

They are kindly supporting Sunshine Butterflies disability support charity, who will be embarking on a three month social media campaign showcasing their members with a disability talking about their own personal mental health journeys, and how they have overcome and dealt with hardships.

The mission of the Mental Awareness Foundation is about supporting charities that are working directly with communities who are helping to raise awareness for mental health.

“The Mental Awareness Foundation is all about delivering fun, exciting, informative, exhilarating experiences within communities, which then enables us to support charities,” Mental Awareness Foundation PR manager, Courtney Akrigg said.

“We are honoured to be able to support the great work of Sunshine Butterflies.”Sunshine Butterflies contacted the Foundation for support, after a Facebook post they did with one of their members talking about mental health went viral and more of their members voiced a desire to express themselves on their social media platforms.

The Mental Awareness Foundation immediately jumped on board to support Sunshine Butterflies, offering help by providing the funding to purchase their very own camera and videography equipment to complete a mental health awareness campaign.

“We received so much positive feedback when we shared our member Kaleb’s story on our Social Media, our community was incredibly moved by his bravery to speak out about mental health and advocate for the disability community,” Ali from Marketing and Events said.

“We realised we could create huge impact through a campaign like this and we really wanted to partner with an organization like The Mental Awareness Foundation to create something unique.”Sunshine Butterflies were thrilled to gain the funding for their new camera gear and create a campaign focusing on their member’s mental health and wellness.

They named the campaign ‘B- Reel’ and are very excited to bring this project to life. This campaign will focus on more personalized stories of their members, their individual stories, points of view and coping mechanisms when talking about mental health and wellbeing and living with a disability.

“This campaign ‘B-Reel’ will showcase our members interacting and using film and photography to talk about their struggles, their joys and advocating for disability rights,” Lucy Mills from Community Development said.

“We are really excited to start this campaign through our social media, which generates and enormous amount of traction. We feel this is something that could bring a little light to everyone’s lives right now.”

Sunshine Butterflies is very excited for their members to be more involved in the creation of content on their social media channels through their new ‘B-Reel’ campaign.

“Sunshine Butterflies social media platforms provide a great space for us as a community to understand what it’s like to live a day in someone else’s shoes,” Lucy said.

In a time when mental health is so important in peoples lives and so many people are suffering, it is incredible to see two wonderful organisations join forces to create something heartwarming and potentially life-changing during such tough times.

“We hope we can continue to support the great effort that Sunshine Butterflies are making on the lives of people within the community living with disabilities. Sunshine Butterflies not only offer and facilitate inspiring programs for people with disabilities, but they nurture their wellbeing, education and care for them greatly,” Courtney said.

“Seeing Sunshine Butterflies programs in action was the most uplifting experience and I am so excited for the Mental Awareness Foundation to support their efforts.”

Sunshine Butterflies will introduce their ‘B-Reel’ campaign in the coming months using their new camera and filming gear.
