Noosa Pirates A grade defeated by Coolum

A grade result: Noosa 22 defeated by Coolum 23.

The Noosa Pirates Rugby League A grade team went into Saturday’s game against Coolum Colts with the minor premiership on the line.

Unfortunately captain Kris Williams and his front row partner Jackson Riccotta were ruled out the morning of the game.

“Having already missing star fullback Patrick McGinn we were forced to reshuffle the side,” Noosa Pirates head coach Michael Duff said.

“It was a game of two halves for us on the weekend. We came out of the gates firing in defense and attack, leading 18 to 4 at half time, with tries to Dylan Cousens, Terry Carroll and Ethan Pohlner scoring a double.

“We maintained control in the start of the second half with Ethan grabbing his third try of the game but this would be our only highlight as we copped some really poor decisions, allowing Coolum to score tries and level the game at 22 a piece.”

Coolum managed to kick a field goal in the dying minute to take the win.

Outside was led strongly by Rohan Messer and Caleb Van Lawrick who were massive in the front row.

“The result means we came second and will host Beerwah at home this Saturday for the chance to play Coolum again in the grand final qualifier,” Michael said.

Reserve grade results: Noosa 32 defeated Coolum 10.

Noosa Pirates reserve grade finished their regular season on a high note defeating Coolum and locking down second position on the ladder.

Halves Lachlan Gladman and Hayden Trask lead the side around the paddock setting you tries for fullback Ashar Buckman and forward Brad Partington.

The game was sealed in the second half with tries to Trask, captain Josh Bullen and the dynamic Zane keen.

Major semi finals are on Saturday 24 August at Pirate Park Tewantin.
