‘Overjoyed’: No new cases for QLD

No new cases have been recorded across Queensland, leaving the state total of active coronavirus cases at 1019.

With 85870 tests completed across the state, and 738 cases recovered, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is pleased with how the state is going.

“Can I once again thank Queenslanders for the amazing job that you are doing in terms of combating coronavirus across our state.

“Today, I am very pleased to report that we have zero cases.

“This is an absolutely tremendous effort,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“If we can keep this up over the coming weeks, I’m sure that’s going to mean we are able to make some changes and ease some of those restrictions.

“Thank you Queensland for the enormous effort.”

Ms Palaszczuk said that there had been some issues of people arriving from interstate, and there is more Queenslanders expected to arrive from overseas, and that restrictions are still in place across the state.

Minster of Queensland Health Stephen Miles said this is the reward for the effort we all put in over the Easter long weekend.

“It’s a fantastic result, exactly where we hoped we’d get to and now hope we can sustain it.

“Of all of our cases, just 20 remain in hospital, seven are in intensive care, they are all receiving ventilation and they are all in the South East corner.”

Mr Miles said that its been observed in other countries where levels have dropped to zero and then sky rocketed again.

“We need to keep up our current approach, but if we can sustain this then the end is in sight,” Mr Miles said.
