Noosa Councillors have signed new Code of Conduct declarations in a commitment to uphold recently introduced State rules for elected local government representatives.
Mayor Tony Wellington said it was a voluntary step by Noosa Council in support of transparent and accountable governance.
The new Code of Conduct rules for all Queensland councillors came into effect on December 3.
“It’s not a legislative requirement for Councillors to make new Code of Conduct declarations during the current term. But by doing so we’re confirming our commitment to the new rules and reaffirming our pledge to serve the Noosa community with integrity and accountability,” Cr Wellington said.
“Noosa Council had its own Councillor Code of Conduct policy prior to the introduction of the new State-wide rules. But many councils did not have their own Code of Conduct policies in place, which is why the State Government prescribed a standard one for all councils across Queensland.
“The new, mandatory Code of Conduct sets out a high and consistent standard of expected behaviour for councillors and mayors.”
