Man arrested after police chase: Driver shot, woman dies in crash

A man has been arrested after a driver was shot in the arm and a woman in another car died in a multi-vehicle crash in Palmview on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services were initially called to the southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway around 12.10pm, following reports of a traffic crash.

Preliminary information indicates a red Porsche Macan crashed, causing a multi-vehicle crash.

A man exited the Porsche and approached a white SsangYong Rexton, whilst armed with a firearm.

He shot the male driver of the Rexton in the arm, stealing the vehicle and fleeing the scene.

It is not believed the two men were known to each other.

Police found the stolen Rexton crashed in Landsborough, near Forestry Road, around 12.35pm.

The man proceeded to steal another vehicle, a grey Mazda 3, however he was arrested a short time later near Steve Irwin Way.

The firearm was recovered inside the vehicle.

Three crime scenes have been declared, with one at Palmview and two in Landsborough.

A woman and man, who were in another vehicle at the time of the earlier traffic crash, were injured as a result of the crash.

The woman has since died and the man was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigations are continuing.
