Noosa squad ready to race to raise funds

Race day is just around the corner for a Noosa squad paddling 26km for an important cause in the Virtual Molokai to Oahu paddle board race.

With the help of his team mates, Invisible Injuries founder Andy Fermo is fundraising to develop their valuable online resource for veterans returning home from deployment.

Their online centre will include tools and resources to help improve mental and physical health for veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder at any stage in their lives.

The 26km open ocean course will kick off at 8am this Sunday 26 July, from just north of Teewah or from Marcoola (depending on the weather) to Noosa Heads Surf Club.

Despite having to scrap their family fun race day activities due to COVID-19, Andy said he was excited to take on the race.

“We’re proud to announce six times M2O winner, women’s Ironman champion and local legend Jordan Mercer as our campaign ambassador,” Andy said.

“Training sessions have been amazing with Tom Molloy (Activate Body) high performance coach and squad member using his S.M.A.R.T method to get us ready for the big event.”

The charity has organised a virtual event where anyone can watch, shown via Facebook live @invisibleinjuries.

“We value the importance the role our community plays in assisting us achieve our mission and charitable cause,” Andy said.

“They can support our cause on the day by following our socials and hourly livestreams on Facebook/Instagram, they can also tag a friend, colleague, relative, provider or group that may benefit from what we’re doing.”

Andy said the squad was expected finish at the middle groin of Noosa main beach any time between 11:15am to 12:00pm on Sunday.

“If you’re in the area come join us for the final paddle into the finish line,” he said.

“Thanks to everyone for their continued support getting us to this point.”
