TransLink will offer additional morning services this Anzac Day to help patrons pay their respects to Australia’s servicemen and women, past and present.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said across the south east, close to 60 extra morning buses will help customers travel to a Remembrance Service together with nine additional pre-dawn train services.
Pre-dawn train services will run on most lines into the Brisbane CBD and beyond to outer suburbs.
“As a mark of respect to the those who served our country, veterans wearing their uniform or service medals travel free across all TransLink bus, train, ferry and tram services in South East Queensland,” Mr Bailey said.
“There will also be free transport for family members wearing service medals as well as children participating in ceremonies representing scouts, girl guides and military associations while wearing their official uniform.”
Assistant Minister for Veteran Affairs Jennifer Howard said Anzac Day plays an important role in the community for people to be able to pay their respects to those who fought for our country.
“Each year, we see a large uptake in our services as customers head to their local park or RSL to remember those who sacrificed so much,” Ms Howard said.
“With the large crowds, it can be difficult to find parking at various events, and we encourage everyone to, where possible, ride the bus or train to your service.”
