Noosa Council has confirmed it is prepared to work with Noosa Shire’s oldest continuous organisation to plan the future uses of the Pomona Showgrounds at the heart of the hinterland village.
It follows recent adoption of a Pomona Place Plan, worked up with townsfolk over the past two years.
Noosa Council’s Community Services Acting Director, Brad Chalmers, told councillors at the Ordinary Meeting on 17 April that council staff had met with show society committee members on 11 March to consider a master plan covering the showgrounds.
Responding to a question put to council by resident Brian O’Connor, Mr Chalmers said it was up to the Pomona Showgrounds owner, Noosa Show Society, as to, if or when, a master plan was developed.
He said at the meeting the show society indicated a desire to undertake a master planning process and staff would now look to assist them on the commencement and development of a plan.
“We are happy to discuss a potential master plan and provide support, commencing over the next 12 months,” he said.
“Council has funding available to assist organisations undertake planning processes like this and would work collaboratively with the Show Society on an important project such as this.”
This year’s Noosa Country Show is scheduled for 12-13 September at Pomona.
