Steve Irwin Day: Celebrating the legacy of the original Wildlife Warrior

Australia Zoo celebrated Steve Irwin Day by honouring the legacy of the greatest Wildlife Warrior who ever lived on Friday 15 November.

A special day on the Australia Zoo calendar, Steve Irwin Day represents everything Steve was so passionate about: family, conservation and fun. Each year, Wildlife Warriors from around the world come together to raise vital funds for the preservation of wildlife and wild places.

Wildlife Warrior Chandler Powell said, “Here at Australia Zoo, we are proud to celebrate the life of the one and only Crocodile Hunter, Steve, as his passion for the natural world continues to inspire more people to become true conservationists.“

In celebration of Steve Irwin Day, the Irwin family fed the crocodiles in the original grandstands, where Steve used to feed these apex predators. These beautiful crocodiles were rescued by Steve himself.

Australia Zoo hosted an action-packed day by offering discounted entry to visitors dressed in their best khakis, free skin checks by the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation, Fried Mudd Clay and Little Green Thumbs workshops, roving performances by Gubbi Gubbi Dance, and more.

Wildlife conservationist Bindi Irwin said, “Steve Irwin Day holds a special place for us as a family, celebrating everything Dad stood for and the profound impact one person can have on the planet.“

“It is always uplifting to see people embrace the khaki spirit on Steve Irwin Day. Dad’s message and legacy has never been more important, and we are honoured to continue his important conservation work at Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors.“

Australia Zoo and global charity, Wildlife Warriors, continue to work tirelessly towards preserving the world’s most threatened wildlife species and natural habitats, honouring Steve’s dream to save one, and ultimately save the entire species.
