Police crack down on drivers over Easter

Police officers from Noosa Heads, Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol and the Tactical Crime Squad staged a five-day traffic blitz over the Easter weekend across Noosa and Teewah Beach.

The joint operation involving officers from Queensland Police and Queensland National Parks started on Holy Thursday at Moorindil Street where vehicles and their occupants were compliance-checked before entering the Cooloola National Park.

Random breath testing of 200 drivers resulted in the detection of only six drink drivers which was very pleasing.

Of 40 random drug tests, six drug drivers being detected.

A total of 90 traffic infringement notices were issued including 35 speeding offences, 24 defective vehicles, 12 seatbelts, two unregistered vehicles and driving without due care or creating undue noise or smoke. Three vehicles were grounded on the spot given their unsafe condition.

Despite the huge crowds of tourists attending Noosa and Teewah over Easter, it was a relatively quiet Easter weekend in terms of calls for service.
