Woman attempts to flee police by driving up to 180km/hour

A woman driving on the wrong side of the road in attempts to flee police with alleged speeds of up to 180km/hour has been charged with a string of offences.

She was one of seven people arrested and handed 20 charges by the Sunshine Coast Tactical Crime Squad, as part of a road safety operation in the Glass House Mountains on Wednesday 24 July.

Operation Lasso took place on the Bruce Highway northbound between 8pm and 12am.

More than 650 roadside breath tests (RBT) were done during the four-hour period, and three motorists were caught driving over the legal breath alcohol concentration limit.

Sixteen infringement notices were issued, including for driving on a nature strip, failing to display P plates, defective vehicles, unregistered and unlicenced driving.

During the Operation, a 21-year-old North Lakes man was allegedly found in possession of a quantity of methylamphetamine and MDMA.

He has been charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of possessing things (mobile phone).

He has been issued a notice to appear before the Caloundra Magistrates Court on 8 August.

A 24-year-old woman was also arrested after she allegedly drove dangerously through the RBT site in an attempt to evade police around 11pm.

POLAIR tracked the blue Toyota Corolla before a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed and the driver was taken into custody in Caboolture.

A 24-year-old Mango Hill woman has been charged with multiple offences, including dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, possessing dangerous drugs, obstructing police and contravening direction by a police officer.

She was named in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on 25 July.
