Sunshine Coast care sector recruiting 30 new workers by Christmas

Thirty new local jobs are being created before Christmas as demand for disability support surges and new supported accommodation cabins open in Buderim.

The growth comes from Sunshine Coast-based care provider Lavender Co., which is expanding its services to meet rising demand for Supported Independent Living (SIL) and inviting locals to join its team through a Recruitment Day on Wednesday 6 November – where successful applicants could be hired on the spot.

Lavender Co. general manager Kaitlyn Akers said the organisation’s people-first approach and community culture continue to drive growth.

“More families are choosing the kind of care Lavender Co. provides – compassionate, person-centred, and community-driven,” she said.

“This expansion means 30 new local jobs, many of which can fit flexibly around people’s existing commitments.”

Akers said the demand for high-quality supported accommodation on the Sunshine Coast is increasing rapidly, and ensuring these roles are filled before the festive season is critical.

“We want every guest to feel supported and settled heading into Christmas – and for their families to have confidence that their loved ones are cared for not just over the holidays, but all year round,” she said.

A growing number of care workers are taking on disability support as a second job, using flexible shifts to boost their income or accommodate family, sport, and lifestyle commitments.

“Many of our carers balance family life or other work,” Akers said.

“They’re drawn to Lavender Co. because it allows them to make a difference while working in a way that suits their lifestyle.”

The 6 November Recruitment Day includes two sessions (8am–12pm and 1pm–5pm), featuring a company introduction, group interview, and one-on-one interviews for shortlisted applicants. Each applicant will have the chance to meet with Lavender Co.’s Founder and Director, Michael Burke, as well as Akers and other team members, to find the right culture fit.

Successful candidates may receive a conditional offer of employment on the day, pending reference checks.

Akers said the company is proud to be creating meaningful employment opportunities across the region.

“We’re proud to be growing jobs right here on the Sunshine Coast – supporting both our guests and the local people who care for them,” she said.
