Burns will continue through to late May, weather permitting.

Smoke may be noted in the area again today as planned burns continue in the Noosa National Park today.

“The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Partnerships will be conducting planned burns in Noosa National Park from Thursday 16 April through to Friday 29 May weather permitting, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests.

“As a result, smoke may be seen in the Tewantin, Noosaville, Noosa, Peregian and Weyba Downs areas.

“The aim of these burns is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas.

“This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.

“Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads so it is important that motorists drive safely to the conditions.

“Please observe signage, barriers, do not enter closed areas and follow direction from rangers. Safety is our concern but your responsibility. For more information, please call The Tewantin office of QPWS on 07 5470 3400.”

QPWS advise that local roads should not be affected, however as always, please drive to conditions.
