Rotary Club of Cooroy raises $40,000

New members Glenis Lewis, John Lewis, President Warren, Gerard Van Der Horst and Brad Hill.

Rotary Club of Cooroy celebrated its 26th Presidential Dinner at the Cooroy RSL on Monday 24 June 2019 with special guests Marty Hunt, MP for Nicklin, and his wife Kelly and Deputy Mayor of Noosa, Frank Wilkie.

President Warren O’Neill delivered his report on the past year and looked forward to an even more successful year retaining the office of President for the coming 12 months.

President Warren said:

“This has been a very busy and rewarding year and with the generous support of the Cooroy community almost $40,000 was raised for good causes to include local disability support group, Sunshine Butterflies and the Queensland Drought Appeal.”

“During the year club members and their guests have listened to over 20 interesting speakers from many different walks of life and participated in community activities that help to make Cooroy the wonderful place it is to live and work.”

The dinner provided an opportunity to recognise some special contributions made by residents and club members. Sergeant Mal Scott received the Reg Bryant Award for his diligence keeping Cooroy safe and Wendy Holloway received a community service award for her work with many organisations assisting those less fortunate. Rotarian and a Past President of the club, Chris Durie received the Col Stephens Award for outstanding Club service. Chris is the club treasurer and masterminds the logistics behind both the club activities and its fund-raising events.

Rotarian Joan Alexander received a Paul Harris Fellowship awarded to Rotarians who have shown that they are prepared to go that extra mile in support of people in need. It is an emphatic acknowledgement of the appreciation shown for tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among people.

“A club survives through the vibrancy of its members and a highlight of this year has been the addition of seven new club members bringing greater diversity and experience to the Club. We welcome anyone to come to our meetings to find out more about Rotary,” President Warren said.

The Rotary Club of Cooroy meets 6pm on Monday evenings at the Masonic Hall at 58 Elm Street Cooroy. For more information visit cooroyrotary.org.au.
