Thieves hit Peregian streets

Lock your cars and doors including garage doors is the message from Coolum police after thieves roamed streets around the northern end of Peregian Beach on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, stealing what was easy pickings on their travels.

Police are investigating the spat of thefts around Persimmon, Calliandra, Lancewood and Pavonia streets and have returned to the owners some property that was retrieved from nearby the scenes of the crimes or recovered by other people.

There were no break-and-enters with access gained through unlocked doors and gates, police said.

The burning of a car in Pavonia street has also been linked to the thefts, police said.

About 7pm on Saturday neighbours heard explosions coming from a car on fire in a resident’s driveway and rang 000.

Three Queensland Fire and Emergency Service units attended and extinguished the burning car, preventing it from spreading to the house or surroundings.

Neighbourhood Watch was working at its best over the weekend as neighbours kept a close eye on each other and informed the police of suspicious behaviours.

Over the weekend on Friday and Saturday Neighbourhood Watch Area 2 Noosa sent out alerts to local residents to inform them of intrusions and thefts and reminded them to lock up and remain vigilant.

Neighbourhood Watch reported two intrusions on 24 July – one in Lancewood St was a vehicle where nothing of value was stolen as the intruder was either interrupted or did not find what they were looking for and the second in Persimmon Drive was the theft of a lemon tree from a back garden.

They advised residents who reported finding discarded items on their footpath to take them to Coolum police.

Information can be reported to Police Link 24 hours a day on 131 444.
