Ellie Megraw claims double victory at Noosa Toastmasters competition

Noosa Toastmasters Club held its second and final competition of the year on Sunday 22 September, with members delivering powerful and entertaining performances in the International and Evaluation Speech Contests.

Held at the CWA Hall in Tewantin, the event saw contestants put their speaking and critical thinking skills to the test before a panel of club and guest judges.

In the Evaluation Speech Contest, members were challenged to assess a guest speaker’s prepared speech with only minutes to plan their response. Competitors were judged on their ability to provide constructive feedback, analytical depth and delivery technique. Rising above the strong field, Ellie Megraw was named Noosa Toastmasters’ winning evaluator.

Ellie also impressed in the International Speech Contest, where speakers presented original speeches on a topic of their choice. Her winning speech, “Does the universe really have my back”, had the audience both laughing and reflecting on life’s cosmic quirks.

Both first-place winners will go on to represent Noosa Toastmasters at the Area 16 Conference on Saturday 8 November in Mudjimba, where they will compete against members from five Sunshine Coast clubs: Coolum, Maroochydore, Nambour, Sunshine Coast and Noosa.
