The giant laughing kookaburra, a 750kg sculpture created by artist and academic Farvardin Daliri dropped into Noosa on Monday. Noosa MP Sandy Bolton snapped this shot of the artwork when it stopped by the river on its journey around Australia spreading joy and happiness.
Dr Farvardin Daliri designed the big bird for the Townsville Cultural Festival, a festival celebrating multiculturalism and community.
The sculpture was a work of love for Dr Daliri who used his time in Covid-19 lockdown to complete the 5m mechanical bird which opens and closes its beak and cackles like the real thing. The infectious laugh of our native bird has been cheering people up in its travels across the state.
Born in Iran, Daliri studied sculpture in India before migrating to Australia.
It is not his first big sculpture. He has also built a giant carpet snake, which is a tourist attraction in Burdekin.
