Queensland to close borders to Greater Sydney

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced today Queensland will close its borders to all of Greater Sydney.

From 1am Saturday, 31 additional New South Wales local government areas will be declared hotspots and no one from Sydney will be allowed into Queensland.

Queensland residents returning will have to isolate in a hotel for 14 days at their own expense.

This comes after there were two new confirmed cases of coronavirus recorded in Queensland overnight.

Both women travelled together interstate earlier this month, including to Brisbane from Melbourne on the 21 of July via Sydney.

One of the women was from Logan and the other from Acacia Ridge and are being cared for at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Ms Palaszczuk said she was furious that this happened.

“That these two people have gone to Victoria, have come back and have given misleading information to authorities,” she said.

“I also want to say now that it is going to cause a lot of inconvenience to families but it is too important and we must protect Queenslanders.”
